Ayurvedic Treatment for Anosmia uses the basic treatment principle explained in the Jwara ( Fever ). This very relevant in the pandemic COVID 19 period. Anosmia or smell blindness is a condition in which there is the loss of the ability to detect one or more smells. It can either be temporary or permanent. Hyposmia is a condition characterized by decreased sensitivity to smells.
Signs and Symptoms The cardinal feature is the loss of smell. Also, patients sometimes taste food differently. Causes Nasal congestion from cold, allergy, sinus infection or poor air quality is the most common cause of temporary loss of smell sensation. The other causes of anosmia include,
Pathophysiology The presence of non-motile cilia extending from olfactory receptor neurons at the surface of the olfactory epithelium has importance in sense of olfaction. Olfactory neurons must assemble their cilia to properly localize several key transduction proteins at the cilia membrane. If odorant receptor proteins and their accompanying transduction machinery are not localized properly in cilia, or if the cilia are malformed (or absent), odor detection cannot occur, resulting in anosmia. Diagnosis It is difficult to diagnose the condition. Interrogation with the patient regarding the symptoms and their onset along with other medical history lead to the diagnosis. Treatments The treatment of anosmia depends on the cause.
Prognosis The prognosis of anosmia also depends on the cause. Specific therapy to cure the cause of the disease automatically relives this condition. No therapy is available for age-related or idiopathic loss of smell. Complications The person affected with anosmia may gradually lose interest in eating food which leads to weight loss and malnutrition. Also, become unable to recognize spoiled food or gas leaks. Disease and Ayurveda Ghrananasa or lack of smell is said as one among Vataja nanatmaja vyadhi. The vitiated dosha is predominantly Vata. Nidana- Causes The reasons for vitiation Vata dosha can lead to this condition. The vata kopa nidana includes,
It can also be a symptom of Nasa roga like vataja pratisyaya. Samprapthi Maturation The indulgence of nidana (causes) vitiates Vata dosha and get lodged to nasagata srotomarga (nasal passage) leading to ghrananasa. Lakshana Signs and Symptoms
Prognosis Proper treatment considering the cause can alleviate the condition. Chikitsa- Treatment The treatment includes those which alleviate Vata vitiation. Also if anosmia is due to other diseases like Vataja pratisyaya it should be managed accordingly. Nasya or nasal instillation of medicine and Dhoomapaana (steam inhalation) are found to be good. Ayurvedic Treatment for Arthritis knees follows the general treatment principle of Ayurvedic Vata Vyadhi management. The knee joint is the strongest and largest joint in the body which is made up of the lower end of the femur, upper end of tibia, fibula, and patella. The ends of the three bones where they touch are covered with articular cartilage, a smooth, slippery substance that protects and cushions the bones as you bend and straighten your knee. The meniscus is two wedge-shaped cartilages that are tough and rubbery to help cushion the joint and keep it stable. The synovial membrane covers the joint and inside it has synovial fluid which lubricates the joint. Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and posttraumatic arthritis are the common types of arthritis that affect the knee joint.
Signs and Symptoms The signs and symptoms vary based on the type of arthritis that affected the joint. Osteoarthritis: This is the most common type of arthritis affecting the knee joint. The symptoms include,
Rheumatoid Arthritis: The signs and symptoms include
Post Traumatic Knee Arthritis: The signs and symptoms includes,
Causes and pathophysiology Osteoarthritis is caused when the cartilage cushions the ends of bones in the joint. It is often known as wear and tears disease. Rheumatic arthritis is caused when the immune system attacks the synovial membrane around the joint resulting in the thickening of the synovium. Gradually the cartilage inside the joints gets damaged resulting in symptoms. The injury caused by sports, accidents, or any physical trauma causes wearing out of the joint which results in post-traumatic arthritis. Diagnosis The diagnosis can be done by
X-rays to check for cartilage damage, bone damage, and bone spur formation. Computerized tomography is used to create cross-sectional views on the internal structures of the joint. CT can visualize both bone and surrounding soft tissues. Treatments Arthritis of knee joint can be managed by,
Prognosis There is no complete cure for arthritis, but treatment can relieve symptoms, slow the progress of the disease, and reduce the risk of complications. In severe cases, surgery can be done to replace the inflamed joint. Complications A stress fracture is a complication of osteoarthritis of the knee joint. Joint deformities like knock knee or bow legs happen in advanced disease. Osteoporosis and rheumatoid nodules are also seen. Disease and Ayurveda In Ayurveda, Sandhigata vata is a condition affecting joints that closely resembles the symptoms of Arthritis of a joint. Nidana- Causes No specific nidana is said for the development of Sandhigata vata. But the factors like excessive dry, cold food, cold regimen, improper exercise, body postures, lack of nutrition, and less intake of food, etc. which vitiate vata can lead to the condition. Excess exercise and injuries also cause the disease. Purvaroopam- Premonitory Symptoms No premonitory symptoms are described. Samprapthi -Maturation Due to indulgence in etiological factors, the vata gets vitiated which further vitiate tissues like asthi (bone), majja (bone marrow) and gets localized to joints causing symptoms. Lakshana Signs and Symptoms The clinical features include,
Prognosis It is difficult to cure because it usually affects aged people and the knee joint is a vital point (Marma Sthana). Also, the asthi and majja like deeper dhatus (tissues) are affected. Chikitsa- Treatment The treatment aims at alleviating the vitiated vata dosha and strengthening sleshmaka kapha which acts as protection to the joint. The treatment procedures include,

The post Ayurvedic Treatment for ARTHRITIS KNEES appeared first on Ayurvedaforall UK Blog. Via https://www.ayurvedaforall.co.uk/blog/ayurvedic-treatment-arthritis-knees/ Ayurvedic Treatment for Ankylosing Spondylitis works in different levels of the disease. The primary aim to arrest the progression of the disease, then rejuvenate the joints and corrects the basic metabolism of the body to prevent the further accumulation of toxins. Ankylosing spondylitis is a type of inflammatory arthritis affecting the spine and large joints. This is a seronegative spondyloarthropathy. Male are prone to this condition and it usually begins in early adulthood. This condition is also known as Bechterew disease. Usually, the disease starts from the lower back and spreads to the neck and other joints.
Signs and Symptoms As the name says Ankylosis means fused bones and spondylitis means inflammation of vertebral bones and spine. Though it usually starts from the Sacroiliac joint it affects other joints also. The symptoms include,
Causes Several factors are involved in the occurrence of Ankylosing spondylitis. People who have a gene called HLA-B27 are at a greatly increased risk of developing ankylosing spondylitis. Only some people with this gene develop the disease. Some environmental factors also trigger the condition but they are not exactly known. Pathophysiology The pathology of Ankylosing spondylitis mainly affects sites, where ligaments, tendons, and capsules are attached to the bone known as entheses. Three processes are observed at the entheses during the maturation of disease: inflammation, bone erosion, and syndesmophyte (spur) formation. In the inflammatory process tumour necrosis factor is an important mediator. But this proinflammatory cytokine is not closely involved in bone erosion or syndesmophyte formation. The exact pathophysiology is still incomplete and many hypotheses regarding this are available. Diagnosis The history and symptoms and the physical examination to test the range of movements of the spine can guide the diagnosis. X-ray shows visible signs of Ankylosing spondylitis. X-ray findings include the altered shape of bones, and joints that are thickened, fused. Spur formation is also seen in the bones. MRI can be used to diagnose the early disease process. No specific test for Ankylosing spondylitis but inflammatory markers will be elevated. Blood can be tested for the HLA-B27 gene. But all persons with this gene won’t develop the disease. Treatments Treatment aims to reduce the pain and stiffness along with delaying complications and spinal deformity. Medications include are used to reduce inflammation and pain. This includes NSAIDs like naproxen, indomethacin. A tumour necrosis factor (TNF) blocker or an interleukin-17 (IL-17) inhibitor is also used if NSAIDs do not work. TNF blockers target a cell protein that causes inflammation in the body. IL-17 plays a role in the body’s defence against infection and also has a role in inflammation. Physiotherapy treatments are advised to reduce stiffness and increase flexibility. Posture maintenance is an important goal in the treatment of Ankylosing spondylitis. If bone or joint is severely damaged then surgery is advised. Prognosis The patients need long-term anti-inflammatory treatment along with physiotherapy. The symptoms vary from person to person and proper treatment can delay the progression and spinal deformities. But the complete cure is very difficult. Complications The complications due to the Ankylosing spondylitis can affect the day to day activities of the patients and it includes,
Disease and Ayurveda In Ayurveda, Ankylosing spondylitis comes under the purview of Vata vyadhi. Symptomatically this can be said as Danta apatanaka. Nidana- Causes No specific nidana is said by Acharyas, but the etiological factors responsible for vitiation of vata dosha can also cause this condition.
Samprapthi Maturation The vitiation of vata dosha along with kapha which in turn gets lodged in dhamani causing stiffness similar to a stick. Sthana samsraya of vitiated doshas occur in Asthi (bone) and majja dhatu. Lakshana Signs and Symptoms The symptoms get manifested includes, Stiffness of back from hip to neck Restricted forward and sideward bending Pain in the right upper limb with restricted movements Pricking pain and swelling over the nape of the neck Swelling over right shoulder and right side of the face Stiffness of back from hip to neck Restricted forward and sideward bending Pain in the right upper limb with restricted movements Pricking pain and swelling over nape of the neck Swelling over right shoulder and right side of face
Prognosis This is considered difficult to treat and if the patient is weak it will endanger life. Chikitsa- Treatment Snehana (oleation), swedana (sudation) and mridu virechana (mild purgation) can be chosen as the treatment modality. Ksheera vasthi can be done using drugs possessing a bitter taste. Virechana can be done using medicated castor oil For snehapana Dhanwantharam ghrita can be used. Greeva vasthi and kadee vasthi can be done to reduce the stiffness of the neck and lumbosacral joints. Commonly used medicines

Via https://www.ayurvedaforall.co.uk/blog/ayurvedic-treatment-anal-itching/ Ayurvedic Treatment for Anal Abscess focuses on internal medications and external surgical measures following Ayurvedic procedures. A painful condition in which there is a collection of pus that develops near the anus is called an anal abscess. The main cause for the development of abscesses is the infection of small anal glands. Among them, the most common is the perianal abscess. This often appears as a painful boil-like swelling near the anus.

The symptoms of a deep abscess include,
Causes There can have many different causes for the development of an anal abscess. These include:
Colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, diabetes, pelvic inflammatory diseases are some of the risk factors which trigger the development of an anal abscess. Pathophysiology Anal abscesses are caused by plugging of the anal ducts. Anal ducts are those which drain the anal glands in the anal wall and this helps the easy passage of fecal matter through mucus secretion. Its blockage causes fluid stasis which finally leads to infection. Diagnosis The diagnosis of an anal abscess is by doing a physical examination of the anal region. Check for pain, swelling, and redness in the anal region. Additional tests may be carried out to screen sexually transmitted diseases, irritable bowel syndrome, or rectal cancer. Treatments Surgery is the standard treatment for anal abscesses. The superficial abscess can be drained using local anesthesia. For deeper abscess may need hospitalization and surgery. Antibiotics are used to prevent infection. Anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs are also used if needed. Prognosis Surgical treatment is usually successful in all types of anal abscesses.
